#09 and #10

Oh gosh. I have not update every month as I say I will. For the #09 and #10 post, I'll just give my story of Prom Night 2014 filled with pictures.

A night filled with fun and memories. It's one of the event of the year for SMK Seafield students, especially the graduating class of 2014. A night for glitz and glamour. This year's theme: Senja di Paris. :)

Overall, it was a great event organised by the collaboration of teachers and Lower Sixes. Job, well done :)

Let the selected few favourite pictures of mine do the talking.

With Jason (Nat's date and bf).

With Piri. This shot was epic. As we were about to take a snap with the Polaroid, a group of Form5 boys passed by, and one of them got their picture capture with him talking in his phone. His friend was kind enough to retake the shot with his own Polaroid camera. And we had picture swapping time. :D

With the lovely Carol and Ping Teng.

My prom date of the night, Yue Yang.

With Sook Sin, my idol.

With Xun Zhen, my oppa. Haha XD I don't know why we had that hand position.

With The Best Dress, Chia Yan and Yvonne

Unity- the state of forming a complete and harmonious whole, especially in an artistic context.

On 1 of September 2014, I went out to Sunway for a movie with Szeto and Boon Yue. Courtesy of Szeto for wanting to watch 'The Hundred-Foot Journey'.

Food is the way to a man's heart. That's true as it unite two different cultures together in this film. The French cuisine and the Indian cuisine. And a fusion of the two. Both Papa and Madam Mallory are at odds at the beginning of this film, but halfway through it, the main character, Hassan, Papa's son and main chef bring them together through food and understanding. In the end, Hassan who has worked for Madam Mallory is an acclaimed chef and decides to earn help her earn a third Michelin star together with his beloved Marguerite. Besides that, Papa and Madam Mallory put their differences aside and slowly bubbled into a romantic relationship as both understand the loneliness of being widow/widower.

To get other's recognition, you have to learn their culture and adapt yourself to it to prevent any animosity towards each other. This results into being united together through our passion. And that will bring people together eventually a nation.

In a recent questionnaire that my friends prepared, I have to answer a question a day. Thus, the title of the book 'How's life?'. Upon coming to the 28th question, I was asked by Miss Tan Ping Teng on the differences between PRETTY and BEAUTIFUL? (400 words essay) . Without further ado, I shall write my answer here in my blog rather than my usual medium- Instagram.

Pretty define as attractive in a delicate way without being truly beautiful (of a woman, especially  a woman or child) or also as pleasing to the eye or the ear (of a thing). In the other hand, beautiful means pleasing the mind of senses aesthetically. One doesn't have to please the mind of senses aesthetically for being pretty. It just need to appeal to either the eye or ear. Being pretty can exist without being beautiful however being beautiful can't exist without being pretty.

Alas, it's difficult to look for the differences in them. I guess this is where we can start going down different path in the usage of these two unique words. We can ironically use the word pretty to express annoyance or displeasure. Whereas for beautiful you can use it to describe something of a very high standard or excellence.

You can use pretty as an adjective, adverb, verb or a noun. As an adverb, it's used to describe to a moderately high degree or fairly. For instance, 'He look pretty fit for his age.' Make pretty or attractive is it's usage as a verb like 'She'll be all prettied up and ready to go in an hour.' For noun, pretty is used as an attractive thing, like a trinket or used to refer in a condescending way to an attractive people. From the different usage of it, pretty can be replace by many other words as long it describe the purpose of the sentence.

In terms of beautiful, it's only use as an adjective. An example for it is 'She spoke in beautiful English.' to show of a very high standard or excellence.

To  conclude, both pretty and beautiful has such similarities and differences that changes the whole meaning of a sentence spending on its usage.

Dreams and Aspiration

Dreams- a cherished aspiration, ambition, or ideal.
Aspiration- a hope or ambition of achieving something.

Dreams and Aspiration was the title of a ballet showcase I have participated last month. This has inspired me to chase my dreams. Sure there's a lot, but we can slowly achieve it step by step.

The stepping stone is to express my feelings through dance. Thus, I'm challenging myself to perform at least once in any school events. A dance that can hopefully show me what I'm looking for inside myself. To face the fears of the unknown, to conquer it.

Oh well, happy birthday month to me :) and let me aspiration come true.

Catwalk- a platform extending into an auditorium, along which models walk to display clothes in fashion shows.

Have you ever walk on a runway? Dressing up and parading clothes for others to see? Well, I recently have the chance to experience doing a catwalk on my school's celebration for Teacher's Day.

I don't really remember how I got involved in it but it is definitely because of Natasha. Eheh :) and from there, I dragged Cheng Yi into it too. Puan Joyce, our vibrant, fashionista teacher is the teacher-in-charge of this fashion show. It involves the Form 5s and Form 6s.

So yeah. It's a fun day with the guys and girls playing dress up and showing off their best poses. And we have fashion runway expert, Bernard to help us out. :)  enough with the words and let's bring in the pictures. Hopefully, we'll see Nat posting up the video soon. Even though it's cut off halfway.

The Form 6 gents

Wei Guang, my partner in the fashion show

Marion, my makeup artist

Bernard, the fashionista

That's all for today :)

Eheh :) yes... I have forgotten to write the previous month's post. This is mainly due to my preparation for exam. Anyway.... Today's word of the month is........

QUOTE!!

Quote is defined as the repetition of someone else's statement or thought.

I have this fascination of collecting and writing down other people's quote/s. It's nice to know others feelings and relate it to your own. It inspires you to look for the silver lining in the clouds. Even when all hopes are lost,  there's always someone or something out there that still burns the will of hope.

John Green quoted, " Maybe our favourite quotations say more about us than about the stories about the people we are quoting."

We assumed that we and the  people we are quoting are able to relate to each other. However, the plain truth is that it reflects what's in our heart. It reflects back the words we are unable to form out or say.  We pass on quotes to inspire others hoping that the inspiration that we have received will inspires others to reach for their dreams., to stay strong and to  always be optimistic in life.

In a nutshell, words and quotes are a powerful weapon that can change a person.

Mannequin- a dummy used to display clothes in a store window

The recent Form 6 camp organized by the Scouts Committee is definitely a memorable one. Relating to this post, I have participated in an activity called 'Treasure Hunt'. In my group, there's Li-Syuen, Wen Sheng, Carol, Yvonne and me. :)We have to look for 20 pieces of colored labels with words/numbers on it. My group decided to split up the girls and guys to look in certain areas. Originally, both Yvonne and I were looking for the labels with. I'm not sure how we split away from Carol. Anyway, we went to Seafield Walk to look for our 'treasures'. Over there, we met Jing Xiang and Matthew. Jing Xiang being a clown decides to reply us in a spooky voice saying he's not him. And Yvonne replies back in the same manner. XD Scaring each other out, we continued walking through the dark walk.Passing by our school's history room, I scared Yvonne with some ghostly scenarios and accidentally shine the torchlight into the room. And I found a friend :) A ghost!! Eheh. Not really, it's two mannequins dressed in our Malay traditional wear. Yvonne was spooked out about it as she thought it was an actual ghost. That brought laughter to Jing Xiang, Matthew and me. Eheh. Yvonne mentioned that she'll never go to anywhere I have been before and know about in the location at night. Afterwards, both Yvonne and I brings some people over to the same area to give them the fright of their lives. But, none of them have the best reaction like Yvonne. Plan fail :PThat's all!! Enjoy and goodbye :)
